Book Tour: THE CURSE AND THE PRINCE by Day Leitao

Updated: Mar 26, 2021

Hello bookdragons!

Raven's Bookish Network proudly presents The Curse And The Prince by Day Leitao, the addicting continuation of the Kingdom of Curses and Shadows series! The book was published on January 14th, 2021 by Sparkly Wave.

About the book:

A troubled prince.

A deadly curse.

A mysterious cup.

And the power to save or doom the kingdom.

Of course things didn’t go as planned at the Royal Games. When do things go as planned?

Now Zora is on the run and has to join a disgraced prince in order to retrieve a magical artifact that might undo her valley’s curse. For the first time in her life, she has real hope for her people. Problem is, for the second time in her life, she’s falling for someone she shouldn’t. Finding a hidden object is hard enough on its own, she could do without the heart palpitations and lack of air.

But the real trouble is that there’s more than one curse in the kingdom. And not enough objects or time to get rid of them all.

Here's everything from the Instagram Tour!

Day 1

"The Curse and the Prince is book 2 in the series Kingdom of Curses and Shadows, an enemies-to-lovers or hate-to-love YA romantic fantasy for readers 15 and up who love witty banter, adventure, and magic."

Excerpt:

His tone, his voice… There was something odd about it. “Is there something you’re not telling me?”

A lot.” Griffin smiled. “You know very little about me, right? For example, I haven’t told you my favorite fruit, my favorite season, the kind of books I like to read—”

“Dark magic. Right?”

“For research. Not for fun. Regardless, ‘dark magic’ is a misnomer. And you know why I do it.”

“To find a cure.”

He nodded. Zora remembered the dreadful book she’d seen in his bedroom when he was sick. And the dreadful hypothesis she had come up with. She then said, “If people knew why it was that you are interested in dark magic or whatever magic it is, they wouldn’t judge you.”

“Of course not. They’d kill me." @ravens_books

Day 2

Review:

𝙳𝚊𝚢 𝙻𝚎𝚒𝚝𝚊𝚘 𝚒𝚜 𝚊𝚗 𝚊𝚖𝚊𝚣𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚛. 𝙸 𝚎𝚗𝚓𝚘𝚢𝚎𝚍 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚋𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚜! She writes in a sophisticated manner wherein she inhabits her characters' skulls, which makes the characters of the story very relatable.

𝙸 𝚊𝚕𝚜𝚘 𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚛'𝚜 𝚗𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚟𝚘𝚒𝚌𝚎. I adore her vocabulary, wise technique in writing and proper selection of words suitable for readers of my age.

𝙳𝚊𝚢 𝙻𝚎𝚒𝚝𝚊𝚘 𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚜 𝚊 𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚕𝚍 𝚠𝚑𝚒𝚌𝚑 𝚜𝚎𝚎𝚖𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚋𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕, she can make her readers feel that they are one of the characters and they exists in that particular fantasy world. There is no incident in the story that made me bore or lose my interest. @bubbleswrapherbooks

Review:

After finishing the first book I could help but immediately delve into the second and continue the story after that painful cliffhanger.

I loved Day Leitao's writing style and character development throughout the book, the storyline and pacing really grew on me. The romance is a lovely addition alongside the story and main plotline (who doesn't like a little bit romance?)

I personally prefer multiple POV's so this book met my expectations while keeping me invested. I can't wait to read the next book! @wings_and_ruin

Day 3

Excerpt:

Zora shivered at the way he mentioned the princess’ lies. He would probably hate her too if she didn’t tell him the truth soon. Well, he would probably hate her regardless, which at least would make it easier to avoid him. But she tried to say something to console him. “Well, people are irrational when they are guided by their hearts, so…”

“I wasn’t in love. I thought I was, but I wasn’t. And you’re right that it only makes it worse.”

“Then it was not the heart. Another body part. Still irrational.” @booknotes_athina

Day 4

Review: I loooooooove the writing on this one! So much better than the first book! I can’t stop thinking of Griffin! He is amazing! Just— speechless! Zoya is still my sassy girl and I love her. She kinda reminds me of short girls with bad temper... as known as me. I just relate to her so much!

I’m still figuring out my thoughts about this book because I want a DETAILED review... all I can say is I love it! Please show us more about the Dark Valley and the shadow creatures!

Q&A with @bookitocat and Author Day Leitao

Q: How did you start writing?

A: I always loved to write. At 9, I tried to write my first novel, I think I had some 50 pages with dialogue, etc... It wasn't a picture book or anything. Sadly, or happily, I didn't finish it. But I've always been writing here and there. I took it more seriously after my son was born, and even more seriously recently, when I learned about indie publishing.

Q: What inspired you to write "The Curse and the Prince"

A: Well, it picks up right where book 1 stopped, and it was a natural development of the series. I had some inspiration from Minecraft for it, in trying to imagine what it would be like to live in a place where monsters spawn in the dark, and there are a few things that I got as influence from the game. There's a part of the novel in a mountain with caves and natural pools...

Q: Which character did you have fun writing?

A: Writing is sometimes fun, but sometimes it's hard. For this novel, it was all hard, so I didn't have much fun. But I think I enjoyed all the characters.

Q: Is there a minor character you like more than the main protagonist?

A: Two characters that were minor in the first book have their own point-of-views and are co-protagonists in The Curse and the Prince, but then they aren't minors anymore.

Q: Should we fear the third book of the series?

A: Oh, no. The book you want to fear is the second one, The Curse and the Prince. You see, a second book can't end well, or else we wouldn't need a third... The third book is where things finally get better, after a lot of struggle. This is the painful one.

Day 5

Review:

I've been slowly making my way through this book, and even though I haven't finished it, I can surely say that I'm loving it. Obviously, I'm still obsessed with the characters. Zora is so strong and sassy and just all around amazing, and Griffin *signs*... he is just climbing on to my bookish bfs list. I'm thoroughly enjoying how it’s continued from the first one. The magic in it is cool, and the world is amazing. ⁣I would highly recommend this book and the series in general. @bookishkarls
