Pre-Order Tour: ASCENSION'S RECKONING by Melissa Lynn Herold

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Hello bookdragons!

Raven's Bookish Network proudly presents Ascension's Reckoning by Melissa Lynn Herold, the final installment in the Iyarri Chronicles! Book will be released on October 26th, 2021 by Wise Ink Creative Publishing.

About Iyarri Chronicles Series Synopsis:

A forgotten race. A forbidden child.

Two thousand years ago, on the Night of Bloody Feathers, humans used blades, bows, and fire to bring a violent end to their delicate partnership with the winged, mythical Iyarri, and in the same stroke, destroyed the balance of truth and justice that unified their enemy. Splintered, the Iyarri withdrew from the world of men, and with time and magic to hide them, faded into human mythos and religious iconography. But they did not forget, and in deep in cliffside strongholds, the Iyarri amended their laws: contact with humans became forbidden, and having a child with one, the Unspeakable Sin, was punishable by death. Now, one such forbidden child, Aurelia, learns the true circumstances of her birth and must evade a death-sentence handed down a millennia ago. It’s up to her to harness her unique blood and long-unseen powers to not only carve out a place for herself in Iyarri society, but also to mend what was broken so long ago.

It’s up to her to harness her unique blood and long-unseen powers to not only carve out a place for herself in Iyarri society, but also to mend what was broken so long ago. My ascension through blood and tears to become Saanire Aurelia Rior didn’t matter—I felt like an imposter walking into the atrium for the gathering of Rior, like a child playing dress-up with powers I hadn’t grown into yet. As autumn fades to bitter winter, Aurelia is running out of time to follow Lucien, Aamon, and the others to the distant northern mountains where the long-lost Rior sanctuary lies hidden. An ethereal beast and dangerous storms bar the way… but so does the shard of memories lodged in Aurelia’s heart. In experiencing her mother’s murder, Aurelia now sees herself rotting before her own eyes leaving her unable to sleep, unable to focus her riore. When she finally reaches the secluded valley, the truth of why the Rior have stayed hidden for a millennia is worse than anything she could have imagined. Aurelia must use her forbidden blood and the powers that come with it to save those she loves, right ancient wrongs, and close the wound that has plagued Iyarri society since the Night of Bloody Feathers.

Day 1

Day 2

Excerpt:

Ecanus lunged forward in a blur, but the chains went taut and he jerked backward.

“Let me go.” His voice was a roar.

Louis straightened.

“Forgive me, but if selling my soul to the devil gets me a captive angel for a muse—then I will take damnation. Teach me to play.”

“Undo these chains. Now.” Ecanus’s voice trembled with rage, and he imbued every word with his solpeth.

Louis took a step forward, then caught himself and shook his head. Ecanus’s hangover made the solpeth less effective than it should have been.

“Your voice compels, but . . .” He took his handkerchief from his pocket and gagged Ecanus with it. “Behold, their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the Lord is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.”

Ecanus thrashed against his bindings, panic showing in the whites of his eyes. Louis sat on the edge of a chair and smiled at his captive muse.

“You will teach me to play.” @ravens_books

Day 3

Excerpt:

Beams like sunlight extended off the points of our feathers, wavering with each wingbeat. Ahead of us, the snow-blinding white light of the ohleræ rose like icy flames. The two powers sang to each other in a way all could see, starlight and sunlight, two halves of the same whole coming together after thousands of years apart.

Day 5

Review:

"It was a very fast-paced and action packed ending to the series. It was exactly what I expected her book to be after the first two books being like this as well. I am still in love with the Iyarri part of the story. The whole concept is so cool, even after two books. I liked that Aurelia can be so emphatic even if she is a little selfish/spoiled at times. She cares deeply for her Nisroc ( which are my favorite iyarri cutie pies in the whole book. LOVE THEM) and she has started to be less miserable and pitiful and more about the actions and helping where it really matters.

Like I said the book is fast paced. Sometimes a bit too fast so it actually takes longer to read because so much is happening. But in the end, it was all worth it. If you love action, you will love this." @abookwolf
